My photos - Environment

As explained i have had to wait all week to be able to get a camera out, as stressful as it is early Monday morning i waited at stores to know definitely that i have a camera. Not only this being a problem i had to spend the entire day printing my Object photo, which led me to a mad rush tuesday.
I have been able to take all the photos needed for my Environment project but feel that if i had had the camera earlier the outcome would have been stronger and more appropriate.
Early tuesday i carried my tripod and Bronica camera up to Bligh Way where i started my trek up the woods. Because of the delay in using the camera felt like i had no room for mistakes and was hoping for the best.
The day went really well, i used a whole film up the woods, stumbled across a cow's field, found patches of land in which the trees were cut down, random broken logs etc... The worst part of the day was walking home again as i was knackered and still needed to take photos for my Pastiche'. Unfortunately by the time i got home loaded my film and made my way to the river the sun was starting to set, (remembering that it gets dark stupidly early) I made a massive mistake as i took the camera out of the bag the back came off ruining my film. I decided to take the photos anyway then at least i could try processing what i had.
When i processed the film i found that i lost six photos but still had seven to choose from which was very lucky. Below are my contact sheets, as you can see a lot of my photos were too dark so i used what i could from my negatives.

Contact Sheets:
My Pastiche' and as you can see the part of the film i lost also.
Deforestation shots.

My environment tasks i thought ended up going really well, except for the fact that some of the photo's were too dark but i know for next time to check my shutter speed as throughout the day the weather tended to cloud over and retain light.
Below are my three final photos for this task:

I processed these photos early thursday morning, however the black and white dark room was out of use due to a workshop. Originally i was told i wouldn't be able to use it until five in the afternoon but i managed to get in there for four. I stayed till half seven to complete the photos, however i managed to print three of the photos tuesday after using the colour dark room for my Object shoot.
The first photo i am really pleased with, i think the light was perfect especially the focus which captured the reflection of the trees in the puddle on the path. I like how the path disappears the further away it gets, maybe to improve it i should change the camera angle, and play with height.
The second photo I am pleased with, however the focus is wrong and has room for improvement. If i had more time i would of re-taken the photo to produce it clearer and maybe lighter also. I do like the look of the logs scattered around that field though.
Also the last photo, i am least pleased with only because of the darkness of the tree on the far right of the photo. It seems to have lost detail because of how dark it is, however, i do like the background but i think it is difficult to see the tree stumps which have been cut down so i should work on the contrast in future. The composition of the photo i am pleased with.
If in future if i was to re-shoot this i would definitely take more rolls of film with me, maybe try colour instead of black and white. I could also expose it for longer so the photos aren't as dark, maybe even include more man made destruction in the photos. I am pleased with the overall three photos though, it felt like a bit of a rush but i did manage to finish on time, but i put the photos up that friday morning in which i was slaughtered for.

My Pastiche'
-Robert Adam's-

Robert Adam's 'Over looking Long beach California'

So i decided to use Robert Adams's photo 'On signal hill overlooking long beach California' as my Pastiche'. If i am honest i think my photo was taken too late in the day as the sun was beaming at the camera causing that light misted patch in the centre. I managed to get both of the trees in, however i think they are too straight to fully portray the message Adam's is trying to make. If the trees were higher i think it would also make a better photo as the view is all wrong. If i'm honest i was most worried about this photo, however i think i did manage to get the right idea with the trees and light. I just need to make the obvious improvements, the lighting made it extremely difficult in the dark room as there was no way around it. Next time i know how to improve.
