Fashion Influences

After a long time in briefing many of our Fashion/Stylists we have had, we found them not be as informative as we would of liked. As a group we have researched into the costume ideas staying well away from the Snow White colours and dress. We want our Snow White to have the characteristics of snow white but resemble the Snow White that the Grimm Brothers created. For her to seem Sexy and purposeful, using the coffin as her own space and dominating the viewer.

One of the inspirations we have looked at was Agent Provocateur a well known lingerie company. The underwear (refer to illustration 1 and 2) is very revealing and may distract the viewer too much. Some of the group members were adamant that we shouldn't use underwear for the costume so we moved onto other references. However the look of the lingerie is similar to what we are looking for, the way in which her body shape is revealed as well as her skin.
We continued to look at lingerie paying close attention to the colours and materials. At this point in time we were having difficulties in reaching our fashion stylist making it harder to visualise the costume.

Rigby Peller.

Rigby and Peller, another Lingerie company that is based in London, advertises its underwear which seems to be less revealing when compared to Agent Provocateur's Lingerie. The underwear colour seem to be a variety but again it isn't quite what we were looking for. It's still quite revealing and in order to represent Snow White how we are imagining, we need to create a 'subtle sexy costume' so it doesn't draw the viewer away from her power, so as group we decided to move away from underwear.

Steven Klein

Steven Kleins images are more what we are looking for. The last image (Illustration 4) is more or less the pose we are looking for, her laid on her back, eyes to the camera with one leg in the air. We like the way there is one stocking on and the other is missing, also the lighting seems very similar to what we are looking for.
These images are from a series called 'Diita Von Teese' by photographer Steven Klein. This series of images gives a good example of the style of clothing we are looking for, it is still revealing and the model still has the sexual power over the audience.

Looking at this series of images by Steven Klein, it was suggested to look at the similarities of the costume design to what we want for our shoot. The first Illustration is an example of using the same expression but the colours and textures accompanied by the simple placement of the hand changes the entire mood and theme of the image. Looking at the Second image, a vail covering the face is in place, its almost like a hidden identity. As with the PVC texture on the third image i personally made the point that the material we choose to use will change the image entirely. I feared that the PVC material will change the image to look more pornographic, as the pose we are looking to using is with her legs and suspenders on show, the PVC may be that little too far. We did discuss the idea of using the veil but decided against it after the thought of hiding her face could reduce the importance of her eye contact with the camera.

After having trouble with our fashion designer/stylist we were pushed to find the fashion clothing ourselves as our time was limited as it came closer towards the shoot date.

Another fashion influence was off Katy Perry an advert for the use of GHD's, we paid close attention to the image and the use of clothing.

Katy Perry - photographer David laChapelle
Looking at this image taken by David LaChapelle, Katy Perry dressed up as an 1920's evil queen Snow White advertising the GHD's collection. We as a group decided that the way the dress falls upon her body was flattering as well as sexy with the split leg in the dress. The hold ups give it a little more, revealing her thigh. This image is not too revealing and we decided that we will find the costume as close to this image as possible. Including a red Suspender belt to add to the sexual references and a black belt to pull in the waist and emphasise her curves.

Red Heels
We have chosen to use, black laced Gloves, A long black floor length pelted skirt, (Nikita cut into it creating the slit in the leg we needed) a leotard, with or without straps, the skirt will cover the bottom of the leotard, a red belt separating the two items of clothing and highlighting her figure, Black or red heels and various jewellery pieces including a crucifix necklace to stay in theme with the religious symbolic meanings of the apple and Snow White tale.

Silver Crucifix

Using the above clothes and accessories we have been able to create the Snow White dress that we imagined regardless of our stylist dropping out. We hoped that the dress and gloves wouldn't be too much and that the attention of the viewer remains on the model, and is not distracted by the items of clothing she is wearing, but empowers the model instead.

Make-up
With make-up in mind we had a specific look we wanted our model to have. We needed eyeliner to enhance her eyes and make them look larger, this way the intensity in the eyes will come across to the viewer. The foundation she needed to be wearing was pale and matching to her skin tone, with contrasting red lips.

Looking at the last image as a reference to our makeup choice these images all have something that we wanted to use. We have a makeup artist who will be applying the makeup of our choice all in which will be in reference to these images.
