Our second group meeting

So as a group we decided that because we finished earlier than expected after lectures on a Monday, we decided that Mondays will be our 'Group Meeting' day. Today we discussed further the set idea and was able to finalise it and create a better vision and idea of we we expect to create set wise. After our meeting we have managed to finalise and discuss possible casting methods, costume ideas, arrangement of set and also our final idea.
Below is a step by step analysis of our meeting:

Sheet one
Looking back the work we created at our previous meeting, we were able as a group to discuss further any additional ideas we had and/or ideas we have documented and want to develop. We narrowed it down to the four ideas above and was able to discuss techniques and ways of creating the set and costumes we may need.

Sheet Two
This sheet based on our final concept we have decided to base our idea on the Beauty and Sexulization that's goes on throughout Snow White. We have discussed to represent Snow White as a strong individual who is not dependant on the male characters to save her. We wanted to use her beauty as a strength against the characters in the story.
The way we want our set will be in a cave, a similar location to what the films and stories consist of. The coffin will be made to look like glass but we will use perspex instead for safety reasons. Snow White will be laying/sitting on top supports in the coffins will be necessary to stop it from collapsing. We would like to have her head at the left end of the coffin as in my old f
paintings such as  Giorgione - The Sleeping Venus (1510) and Manet - Olympia (1863) the women are seen this way. A fresh red apple will be used as a source of seduction and the prince will be kneeling on the floor looking up at Snow White, her having the power over him.

Example one
After browsing online i found this image of Angelina Jolie, after discussing it with our group we decided it's the kind of stare and look we want our model to give the camera. Her body posture is similar to what we want to see also however not the position she is laying in but the body language she is giving.

Example Two
This is an image Ian found online as an example of what kind of coffin we want her to lay/sit on top off. This image in particular is quite darkly lit and has a kind of sad theme to it. When we make the coffin we'll support it with beams in the corners which will also help create an old fashioned look to it. The coffin will be made out of perspex instead of glass for safety reasons.
We did discuss whether to make the coffins glass look scratched and broken to emphasise the strength of Snow White and the fragility of the story, however it is not for sure yet. We would do it by leaving one side of the protective sticky plastic on the perspex and snap it to make it looked cracked, the problem with doing this is that it could make the coffin more fragile and my not be strong enough to hold the models weight, we need to research further into the strength of the perspex.

Sheet Three
After finalising our concept we moved onto Costume design. We have watched a couple of films and researched as a group into different clothing design in films and the story books. I have found that most of the story books and advertisements involving fairy tale characters all use the Disney characters costumes to help recognise the character and story.
For Snow White we wanted her to be recognisable as Snow White so we have decided to stick to the Disney colours. We wanted her to be wearing a yellow skirt which has been ripped to a shorter length preferably above the knee, a shirt with a blue shirt and maybe a red under shirt connotating possible strong feelings that go with the colours. Also black tights with ladders and holes in them will be worn, the holes to make it look as if she had been on a journey to get to where she is now. Originally we wanted her bare foot but now the tights are involved we decided that black stilettos would bring the sex appeal back into the image. In the Disney film she is seen wearing a blue bow in her hair, we are currently unsure of whether to include it in our image.
As for the prince we wanted him to look smart as we were unsure whether we will see his whole body in the photo. Smart fitted trousers or black skinny jeans with black/brown boots will be worn and a white buttoned shirt with a navy waist coat will be worn. We are still discussing whether a cape will be worn over the clothes to make it easier to recognise him as a prince.

Costume Location
My mother used to own a fancy dress shop in which i worked there for a couple of years, she sold and hired out fancy dress costumes. However the business was closed and some of the costumes were sold on and others were kept, if i can find fancy dress items of clothing in the garage as to where their kept then it will help ease expenses of costumes. If the costumes are not found then as a group we will hire or buy our own, we're thinking more buying because of the rips and tears we wanted to make in the clothing.
Example A
This image is an example of what we don't want our model to look like. To begin with we wanted long dark hair, but this is such a revealing outfit that I think it will take the viewers eyes away from our original concept. The colours are very similar to the Disney version of Snow White, initially we did want the colours to be quite dark but we should be able to control that with the lighting. This outfit is too similar to a bra and mini skirt, we need it to be less revealing as we need our message to come across in the image subtlety.

Example B
This second image is a better example of what we want costume wise. The colours and shape of the dress look similar to what we described and discussed as a group, it looks in this image to be felt material which will look better as the texture will enable it to hang appropriately. The red stockings will not be used as they make the costume look cheap and the colour takes your eyes away from the dress.

Example C
This is another example of what we are looking for, this dress is the right length and also has the right colours that we associate with Snow White. It looks a little more classy compared to the other two examples we have found, although i dont think it holds the same amount of sex appeal as example B does.
Sheet 4
Moving onto casting we decided as a group to individually search for the perfect person to play Snow White and also the Prince. We're looking for a long hair haired woman, who's generally slim and height around 5ft as the coffin we make needs to be able to fit her inside it. Preferably we want her to have quite pale skin to try and resemble Snow White as close and correctly as possible.
As for the prince, the general height shouldn't matter as he will be crouching on one knee. However he needs to have a broad build with brown or black short/mid length hair to play the prince perfectly. We decided that by doing this individually we will have a wider variety to choose from, we will take mug shots of the people we generally think fits the part and give them our details and then contact them if they make the cut. As a group we will decide equally who will be casted as each character.
